Stanley Heritage Walk

2 hours 25 min2.9 kmEasy£40 pp

The introduction to the city. Why the roofs are painted the colours they are, how a place of under 3,000 people came to hold city status and a stone cathedral, what the whalebone arch is actually made of, and who lives behind those front doors on Ross Road. A short detour brings you to Cartmell Cottage, where three kitchens spanning over a century sit side by side under one roof.

Walk & Smoko: A Taste of the Falklands

3 hours2 kmEasy£40 pp

Smoko is the Falkland Islands' sacred mid-morning stop: tea, cake, and a sit down. We walk the heart of the city, then eat — Falklands lamb, diddle-dee jam, teaberry, tomatoes grown here under glass, and whatever the boats brought in. You order what you fancy and pay at the café.

The Pub Walkabout

3 hours2.4 kmEvening · 18+£35 pp

Five bars, one evening, and the southernmost pub crawl most people will ever do. A stop in each, the stories behind them, and the sort of conversation you only get in a city where everyone knows everyone. We finish at Falkland Beerworks — the only place in the Islands brewing its own beer, so this is the one stop where what is in your glass was made here. Drinks are bought at the bar and are not part of the fee.

Museum & Wrecks of Stanley Harbour

2 hours1.8 kmEasy£38 pp

Stanley was built on ships that never left. We walk the harbour front past the hulks still standing in the water, then spend an hour inside the Historic Dockyard Museum. The museum is normally a look-around-yourself affair — I come in with you and walk you through it, so you leave knowing which objects matter and why. There is no entry charge for cruise passengers; if you are staying on the Islands, the museum's own admission applies at the door.

Stanley Through the Lens: Highlights & Photo Stops

2 hours1.5 kmGentle pace · flat ground£36 pp

The sights everyone comes ashore for, and the exact spots where they photograph well. Where to stand so the cathedral sits behind the whalebone arch, which side of Ross Road gives you the painted roofs with the harbour behind them, and where the light falls best in the hours your ship is alongside. The whole route is flat and close to the jetty, we stop often, there are benches and a café halfway, and I am glad to hold the camera so you are in the picture too. Phones are perfectly good here. So is a long lens.

Remembering 1982

2.5 to 3 hours4.5 kmEasy · flat£40 pp

Walk through the story of the 1982 conflict as it was lived by the people of Stanley. Starting at the Public Jetty, we follow the harbour front to Government House, where the Royal Marines made their stand on 2 April, and on to the Liberation Memorial, paid for entirely by Falkland Islanders. We pass Christ Church Cathedral, where each Liberation Day begins, and hear how daily life in the city changed during the 74 days of occupation. The walk ends quietly at Memorial Wood, where a tree stands for each British serviceman who lost his life. This is a tour of remembrance, told with care and respect for everyone who visits.
