Where do Stanley on Foot tours start?
Every tour starts on foot at the public jetty in Stanley. We wait at the Visitor Centre beside the jetty, 15 minutes after the first tender lands, with a board showing your name.
There is no coach and no transfer. All five routes are walkable from the jetty.
Are Stanley on Foot tours suitable for cruise passengers?
Yes. Cruise passengers are the main group we guide. Tours are built around your ship's published tender times, with a buffer built in for the weather, and every tour ends back at the jetty at least 45 minutes before the last tender.
Tell me your ship name and I will look up the call and the tender times myself.
How far is the meeting point from the cruise tender landing?
You do not need transport. The Visitor Centre where we meet is at the public jetty itself, where your tender lands.
What happens if my cruise ship arrives late?
I follow the tender schedule on the day, so a late start is adjusted rather than lost. If the delay shortens your time ashore, the route is shortened so that you are still back at the jetty at least 45 minutes before the last tender.
What happens if the weather changes?
Tours run in Falklands weather, which changes quickly. There is a buffer built into every booking, and if the weather turns we shorten the route, not your day.
How many people are normally in a group?
Groups run from 2 to 12 people.
Can I book a private walking tour?
Yes. Private groups are welcome, as are ship excursion desks and travel agents. Tell me the group size when you enquire.
Are tours available in Spanish?
Yes. Tours are guided in English or Spanish. Tell me which you would prefer when you book. For a mixed group I switch between the two so that nobody misses anything.
Are the walks suitable for people with limited mobility?
City routes are mostly flat and can be shortened or adapted for limited mobility. Ask when you enquire and I will plan around it.
Stanley Through the Lens is the gentlest option: the whole route is flat, it stays close to the jetty, we stop often, and there are benches along the way and a café halfway round.
What should I wear for a walking tour in Stanley?
A windproof jacket, shoes you can get wet, and layers rather than one big coat. The wind is the weather here, the pavements are uneven and puddles sit for days. Four seasons in an afternoon is not a joke we tell tourists; it is the forecast.
Bring a card and a little cash, and binoculars if you have them. We carry a spare pair.
When does the season run?
Tours run from October to April. There is no fixed calendar: I check every enquiry against the ship schedule and my own, because on some of the busiest call days I am working as a warden at the wildlife sites and tours do not run.
