Stanley Falkland Islands Shore Excursions for Cruise Passengers

Stanley on Foot provides independent, locally guided walking experiences for visitors arriving by cruise ship. Small groups, timed around your ship, guided in English or Spanish.

Independent shore excursions in Port Stanley

Stanley on Foot is a local, independent walking tour business based in Stanley, Falkland Islands. We are not affiliated with any cruise line and we are not sold through any ship's excursion desk, so you book directly with the guide who will walk with you. Ship excursion desks and travel agents are welcome to book on behalf of passengers.

Groups run from two to twelve people. Every route is walkable from the public jetty where your tender lands, so there is no coach and no transfer. Private tours are available: tell me the group size when you enquire.

Cruise ship arrival days and meeting arrangements

Tell me your ship name and I will look up the call and the tender times myself. On the day we wait at the Visitor Centre beside the public jetty, 15 minutes after the first tender lands, with a board showing your name. The meeting point is at the tender landing itself, so you do not need transport to reach it.

How tours are coordinated around ship schedules

Tours are built around your ship's published tender times, with a buffer built in for the weather, and every walk ends back at the jetty at least 45 minutes before the last tender. I follow the tender schedule on the day, so if your ship arrives late the start is adjusted rather than lost. If a delay shortens your time ashore, the route is shortened so that you are still back in good time.

Tours run from October to April. There is no fixed calendar: I check every enquiry against the ship schedule and my own, because on some of the busiest call days I am working as a warden at the wildlife sites and tours do not run. That is why it is worth sending your dates early.

How long you will be walking

Walks run between roughly one and a half and three hours, over 1.5 to 2.9 km. The shortest and gentlest is Stanley Through the Lens at 1.5 km on flat ground with benches along the way. The fullest introduction is the Stanley Heritage Walk at 2.9 km. The Pub Walkabout runs in the evening and suits passengers on an overnight call.

Weather, and what to wear

The wind is the weather here, and it changes quickly. Bring a windproof jacket, shoes you can get wet and layers rather than one big coat. The pavements are uneven and puddles sit for days. Four seasons in an afternoon is not a joke we tell tourists; it is the forecast. Tours go ahead in Falklands weather: if it turns, we shorten the route, not your day.

Accessibility and limited mobility

City routes are mostly flat and can be shortened or adapted for visitors with limited mobility. Ask when you enquire and I will plan around it. Stanley Through the Lens is the gentlest option: flat throughout, close to the jetty, frequent stops, benches along the way and a café halfway round.
